Marjorie Holmes

Born in Storm Lake, Iowa, Marjorie Holmes grew up surrounded by lakes and open skies, a backdrop that would shape her lifelong appreciation for beauty, faith, and family. Encouraged by an English teacher who told her, “You can write beautiful things for those who crave beautiful things,” she began writing at a young age and never stopped.
After earning her degree at Cornell College, she began selling poems and short stories to national magazines. Her early fiction appeared in publications such as Weird Tales, and by her twenties, she had sold her first stories just days before giving birth to her first child, a fitting start to a life spent balancing motherhood and writing.
Her first novel, World by the Tail (1943), and a string of youthful love stories that followed reflected her gift for empathy and realism. But it was her later work, especially her spiritual books that would make her a household name.
Today, Marjorie Holmes’ legacy continues through her timeless words, reminders that faith can be simple, that love can be sacred, and that beauty can be found even in the most ordinary moments of life.
